The side-wheel steamboat Ticonderoga, built in Shelburne, Vermont in1906, and now on permanent display on the grounds of the Shelburne Museum in Shelburne, plied the waters of Lake Champlain until 1953. Her restoration is focused on 1923, her heyday. Details of life aboard this 220 foot vessel are thoughtfully displayed right down to letters from loved ones. In years before the railroad connected upper Champlain Lake Area with the lower portion in New York State, the Ticondroga provided a genteel mode of overnight travel. Artifacts of life and commerce of the early Twentieth Century are displayed through out the vessel, making this an exhibit for the whole family, as well as the avid historian.
