In 1997, Peter von Ziegesar, a freelance writer living in New York, called me. Peter began by asking if I remember the day we went to pick-up his stepbrother at who was in prep school at the time. I said, yes I do.

"Well, that same boy has been living on the streets for years now and I have started getting involved in trying to help him."

Peter went on toexplain

  • For a moment Peter looks at peace, but it is only a few moments. He needs more drugs, he always needs more to find that moment free of his inner demons.
  • December 30, 1999-I leave Peter on Ocean Drive in South Beach.
  • October 1999--I fly out to New Mexico to see how Peter is getting along. It turns into an eight hundred mile road trip, with a stop at the Vary Large Array radio telescope on Route 60 west of Magdelena. Peter enjoyed the museum.
  • 2006-Ketchum. Idaho. After five and half years from the day I left Peter standing in the shade of the Lamy, New Mexico railroad station, I'm on the road to find Peter. He is living under a bridge down Route 75 I'm told. I find the bridge south of Ketchum. where Peter sometimes sleeps.
